Reversing the decision of the previous Congress government, the AAP government is all set to abolish posts of additional deputy commissioners (Urban Development) in the local government, barring the posts at Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda and SAS Municipal Corporations.

Their work will be given to the additional deputy commissioner (G) or the MC commissioner of the respective district.

The Congress government had abolished six posts of regional deputy director in 2021 to make way for adjustment of IAS/PCS officers to look after the work of the local government.

“Now, the government has cited under-work as the reason. It was a known fact at the time the decision was taken,” said an official in the local government.
