Punjab to buy nine anti-drone systems
The Punjab Cabinet on Friday gave a nod to buy nine anti-drone systems on priority to counter the threat of unmanned aerial vehicles or drones from across the border.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said these systems, to be purchased at a cost of Rs 51.41 crore, would be deployed from Pathankot to Fazilka, all along the 532-km International Border with Pakistan.
“These will counter the threat from drones or unmanned aerial vehicles coming from across the border, including those carrying drugs and weapons,” he said.
Will protect country, water: CM
The Cabinet meeting was held in the wake of the escalation in border tensions between India and Pakistan, and also to discuss the current position on the controversy over the release of additional water to Haryana from the Nangal dam.
Chief Minister assured people that Punjab stood tall and firm to protect the country as well as state waters. Mann said though some shells, which could be the debris of missiles fired from across the border, fell in parts of the state, everything was in control. He asked people not to panic.
“There is no shortage of retail fuel or LPG. I warn hoarders not to create panic. We are in regular touch with our DCs in six border districts of Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Fazilka and Ferozepur,” he added.
Free treatment for terror attack victims
Mann also announced to extend the Farishtey Scheme to victims of terror attacks or war victims. Currently, free treatment is provided to accident victims under the scheme.
“The victims of any terror attack or war victims will also be treated for free,” he said.
The Punjab Cabinet also reviewed the emergency services in the state.
The ministers were apprised of the preparedness of hospitals and fire stations. A review of the available rations in the state and all emergency services was also held. Immediately after the Cabinet meeting, ministers were asked to reach the six border districts, said the CM.
“Ten ministers left for border areas immediately after the Cabinet meeting. They will ensure that people are not inconvenienced by hoarders,” he said.
