The water level in the Ghaggar today touched 744-ft mark at RD-460 in Khanauri, about 55 km from Sangrur, while the danger mark is 752-ft. Talking to The Tribune this evening, Gundeep Bansal, Executive Engineer (XEN), Drainage, Sangrur, said the Ghaggar water was now stable at 744-ft mark at Khanauri and it would start receding after one or two hours.
Sangrur DC Jitendra Jorwal today ordered the officers of various departments to keep a close vigil on the water level of Ghaggar and rivulets passing through the district. He also asked them to ensure all arrangements in flood-prone areas in the wake of rising water level.
He issued these orders at a meeting held here today to take stock of the situation and arrangements related to flood protection measures. On the occasion, he also said the district administration was fully ready to protect the people during possible floods, especially in flood-prone areas, adding that no negligence would be tolerated in the preparedness of flood protection measures.
The DC also directed the Moonak SDM, Lehra SDM, Moonak Tehsildar, Lehra Tehsildar to have a close link with the residents of villages, residing near the Ghaggar, and told people about the arrangements, made by the district administration for their protection against possible floods.
