A sudden downpour in Abohar and surrounding areas on Saturday morning, as forecasted by the Meteorological Department, brought a further drop in temperature, leaving residents shivering and disrupting daily life.

The light rain, which started around 11 am and continued into the afternoon, intensified the chill of the ongoing cold wave. The inclement weather led to deserted markets and nearly empty buses as people remained indoors. Vendors, particularly those operating makeshift markets near a garbage dump, struggled to relocate to South Circular Road amidst the heavy rain.

While the rain was beneficial to the wheat crops, it led to significant inconveniences for residents. The Punjab Water Supply Board had announced a rotational water supply schedule for drinking water from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm to several colonies, including Azeemgarh and Nai Abadi, under the PPCL Sub Division-2. However, a power outage at 2:30 pm left thousands of consumers without access to drinking water.

Dr. Gagandeep Singh from the Civil Hospital in Abohar noted that the temperature had dropped significantly due to the rain and cold wave, with daytime temperatures remaining between 10 to 12 degrees Celsius. He urged residents, particularly children and the elderly, to take extra precautions and avoid venturing out unnecessarily due to the cold and smog, which could exacerbate respiratory issues.
