After unusually heavy rain in the western Himalayan region over the past few days, the activity is expected to decrease “significantly” from tomorrow, the weather department said on Wednesday.

While light to moderate rainfall is likely at most places in the region over the next seven days, heavy rain is expected at isolated places in Punjab on September 9, according to a bulletin issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Describing the monsoon activity in Punjab as “vigorous”, the IMD said light to moderate rain occurred at most places in the state during the past 24 hours, with a spell of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places.

During the period, rainfall was excess by 552 per cent in Punjab, recording 30 mm against the long period average of 4.6 mm. Sangrur was the wettest district in the state, having received 109.4 mm rainfall, followed by Gurdaspur (70.5 mm) and Jalandhar (51.3 mm). Fazilka was the only district that remained dry over the past 25 hours.
