Raj’s MLA flags water shortage, seeks Punjab govt’s intervention

Sadulshehar MLA Gurveer Singh Brar, who was elected to the 16th Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, urged Punjab Irrigation Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal to urgently address inter-state water issues. He said it was crucial to protect farmers from the ramifications of irregular water supply.

At Goyal’s residence, Brar raised the demand for regularising water flow and providing additional supply to Gang Canal. He highlighted the farmers’ losses due to water fluctuations during the sowing season and the need to safeguard their livelihoods.

In the presence of Sardulgarh MLA Gurpreet Singh Banawali and Punjab Youth Development Board Chairman Parminder Singh Goldy, the Sadulshehar legislator told the minister that 2,500 cusecs of sanctioned water to Gang Canal was not ensured, which was a lifeline for farmers in Sriganganagar.

Brar claimed that the canal originating from Ferozepur headworks, passing through Fazilka district, had previously experienced losses of up to 500 cusecs by the time it reached the farmers of Sriganganargar.
