Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) G Nageswara Rao on Tuesday assumed the charge as the Chief Director of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in Mohali.

He will also convene a meeting of all Vigilance Bureau SSPs on Wednesday to take stock of all pending cases and Vigilance enquiries. In a statement, Rao declared zero tolerance against corruption.

in all corruption cases’

Rao asserted that no official of the Bureau would be spared if found indulging in any corrupt practices.

In a surprise move, the Aam Aadmi Party government had replaced state Vigilance Bureau chief Varinder Kumar with Rao on Monday.

The decision was seen as an attempt by the ruling party to fall back on its anti-corruption agenda that had helped it storm to power in the 2022 Assembly poll.

Sources in the Chief Minister’s Office had said that Kumar was replaced as there was “no affirmative action” by the Bureau in several high-profile cases.
