Ravneet Bittu restrained by Chandigarh court from issuing defamatory statements against Balbir Singh
A Chandigarh court has restrained Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu from issuing defamatory statements against Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh on social media platforms.
The court has passed the order in response to a civil suit filed by Balbir, who alleged that Bittu has made some defamatory remarks on YouTube, accusing Punjab government ministers and MLAs of carrying state funds in official vehicles and dumping them at the official residence of the Punjab CM in New Delhi.
Balbir’s counsel requested the court to restrain Bittu from issuing further defamatory statements and to direct both Bittu and Google to remove the alleged content from social media, citing damage to his reputation.
After hearing the arguments, the court said that along with the suit, the plaintiff has placed on record the link of statements made by Bittu posted on social media. In view of the averments made in the case, the court observed that the suit’s objective would be defeated if no ad-interim injunction order is passed, restraining Bittu from making further defamatory statements on social media until further orders.
The Court has adjourned the next hearing for April 16, 2025, and issued notices to Bittu and other defendants.
