Former Akali MLA Gurpartap Singh Wadala and former SGPC chief Jagir Kaur on Monday said the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) was using pressure tactics on Takht Jathedars to mould the December 2 edict in its favour.

The duo, who recently disbanded SAD (Sudhar Lehar), along with former minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur and SGPC member Paramjit Singh Raipur said the Sikh Panth was reeling under a lot of confusion over the non-implementation of the Akal Takht edict.

“Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh must clarify on SAD flouting the Akal Takht edict related to formation of seven-member committee. He should once again clear his stand on whether the SGPC can take action against another Takht Jathedar,” said the leaders.

They said they would fully support Giani Harpreet Singh. “We also urge SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami not to succumb to pressure of the SAD leaders and take any harsh decision against the suspended Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar. He is being deliberately targeted by SAD,” they said.

The leaders said the Sikh Panth was confused over the sequence of events, especially the postponement of the meeting of five Jathedars, which was earlier scheduled on January 28.
