Abohar, November 10
Many farmers from some tail-end villages today submitted a memorandum to the Fazilka Deputy Commissioner demanding the renovation of Ramsara minor (sub-canal) that had suffered breaches many times in the past decade. The sub-canal is located 10 km away from Abohar.
Zila Parishad chairman Manphool Kamboj, Panchayat Samiti chairman Anirudh Kadwasra, sarpanches of Waryamkhera, Shergarh, Kala Tibba, Rajanwali, Kandhwala-Amarkot, Rukanpura-Khuikhera, Jhurarkhera and other villages submitted the memorandum. They said Ramsara minor was constructed in 1975 and its bed had receded. The canal overflows and breaches during heavy rains. Whenever the water is released, crop gets damaged.
They claimed memorandums had been submitted in the past to ministers and legislators, but no action was taken. They said sub-canal needed to be reconstructed before the next rains. — OC
