Ludhiana, November 5

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday asked Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi to reduce the VAT on petrol and diesel by at least Rs 10 per litre each. He said the CM had said on record that there was no dearth of funds.

“In such a case, he should not have any problem in affecting an immediate reduction in the state VAT on the pattern of other state governments,” Sukhbir said. While Sukhbir reiterated his comment about PPCC president Navjot Sidhu being a “misguided missile”, he accused Transport Minister Raja Warring of being vindictive against Akali leaders as “he had not taken any action against any transport company owned by Congress leaders”.

The SAD president attended the bhog ceremony at Gurdwara Sri Singh Sabha, Dugri, in the memory of victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots and also attended Vishwakarma Day celebrations at different places in the city.

In one of the functions, he announced appointment of city-based industrialist Gurmeet Singh Kular as an adviser on industrial affairs to the Shiromani Akali Dal.
