Reduce tax on fuel: Beopar Mandal

Bathinda, October 6
The Punjab Beopar Mandal today sought reduction in taxes and duties imposed on petrol and diesel by central and state governments.
Punjab Beopar Mandal senior vice-president Amarjit Mehta called upon the governments to take coordinated action as high fuel prices were pushing up inflation.
Mehta also said it was not just the owners of cars and scooters, the high fuel prices impacted transportation, manufacturing and other sectors also.
Hitting out at the state government, Mehta said, “We expect least from the BJP-led Modi government to provide relief to Punjab traders, but we are highly disappointed with the state government as fuel prices are at all-time high. The state government has not made any effort to provide relief to residents and traders by cutting down fuel taxes from the state’s share”.
Apart from this, Mehta said the state government had claimed it would provide Rs 14,000 crore for the development of the state, but it had not released the amount. He said the government should provide some relief to the traders and industry as electricity was being supplied at high rates despite the poll promises of Rs 5 per unit.
Speaking about the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, he said, “We condemn the incident, but we want to question state leaders who have never cared for the unemployed youth and teachers, anganwadi workers, farmers, PRTC/Punbus employees and many others staging protest on the roads in the state.”
