Registration for the state government’s universal health insurance scheme for cashless medical treatment began in Tarn Taran and Barnala districts on Tuesday. Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh said the scheme would be implemented from October 2.

“All 65 lakh families in the state will be entitled to get cashless treatment up to Rs 10 lakh at over 500 empanelled hospitals,” he said. “There is no income criteria for the scheme. Only the Aadhaar and voter cards are required to benefit under the scheme,” he added.
