‘Rift’ in Warring bastion: Muktsar ex-MLA stays away from canvassing

Former Muktsar legislator Karan Kaur Brar stayed away from canvassing in the polls to rural bodies here, stocking speculations of a rift in the district Congress.

According to sources, the former legislator — a daughter-in-law of former Chief Minister Harcharan Singh Brar — has her differences with state Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.

Muktsar is Warring’s home district. Due to the reported rift, Brar did not participate in the electioneering and limited her involvement to releasing a video message appealing to voters to support the Congress candidates. A source said she was not even consulted in the selection of candidates.

Commenting on the row, Brar said, “I have released a video urging the public to vote for the Congress. I am a Congress activist and will continue to work for the party. I can’t comment further on it.”

District Congress Committee president Shubhdeep Singh Bittu dismissed the speculations. “She was away because her mother is unwell and there is nothing else to it. She has released a video appealing for votes to Congress candidates,” he said.
