The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal presided over by Ravdeep Singh Hundal has awarded a compensation of Rs 1.4 crore to a road mishap victim here on Monday.

On December 22, 2017, the victim, Paramjit Singh (53) of nearby Rampur village, along with his wife Urmmila Devi was going from his home to Jhajjar village on a scooter when a Swift car, being driven by driver Mohan Lal, hitthem from the rear side. Paramjit suffered permanent disability due to the accident.

Later, Urmmila Devi filed the claim petition for a compensation of Rs 2 crore against driver Mohan Lal, Swift car owner Gurdial Singh andUniversal Sompo General Insurance Corporation, which had insured the car.

She had contended that her husband, PSPCL employee, who used to earn Rs 50,000 per month, was unconscious since the accident even as they had already spent over Rs 20 lakh on his medical care.

Following this, the tribunal ordered the trio to pay Rs 1.4 crore to the victim. — TNS
