The pothole-riddled roads leading to crematoria and graveyards in most parts of the district have made attending the last rites a harrowing task, especially during the monsoon.
Sukhwinder Singh Atwal, a social activist, said, “Civic bodies have failed to provide motorable roads to crematoriums. Overflowing sewage turns kutcha roads into a slush whenever its downpours.”

“The authorities concerned are trying to appease a particular community by recarpeting the roads,” said Atwal.
Sajid Khan, another social activist, said those attending funeral processions face a lot of hardships. “Despite repeated protests and reminders, the MC has failed to repair roads leading to crematoria and graveyards throughout the disrict. Thus, making the last journey more painful,” said Khan.
The aggrieved residents have urged the district authorities to repair the roads at the earliest.
