In one of its kind incident, a group of five armed robbers targeted vegetable vendors in Faridkot on Saturday morning.
Knowing that the vendors would be carrying cash to buy vegetables from market, the robbers, who were in a car, held two vendors at gunpoint and looted Rs 8,000 from the vendors.
The vendors, who were on their way to the market, were startled when the robbers pulled up beside them and demanded money.
As robbers were about to leave the spot, the vendors smashed rear windshield of the car with iron weights of weighing scales.
After getting a complaint from one of the vendors, Dev Shankar, the police have begun investigation into the matter. Cops said they would soon nab the accused.
The incident highlights the rising concerns around safety and security in the city, with many citizens calling for stronger measures to prevent crime.
