Ropar cops crack loot case, arrest 5 persons
The Ropar police have cracked a case of loot with the arrest of five persons. The crime was committed by the suspects in conspiracy with close kin of the victim.
The accused who looted gold bangles from a woman in Ropar were arrested within 11 hours and the stolen gold was recovered from them. The police also arrested two persons, including a sister-in-law of the victim, for allegedly hatching a criminal conspiracy.
SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said three unidentified persons looted four gold bangles (weighing 40 gm) from Pragati Jain of Ranjit Avenue in Ropar town on May 23 at 11.15 am. They used a sharp-edged weapon to intimidate her.
A case was registered under Sections 332(C), 309(4) and 3(5) of the BNS at the City police station in Ropar.
Based on CCTV footage and other inputs, the police arrested Navjot Singh of Phool Kalan village in Ropar, Sukhwinder Singh, alias Deepu, of Asron village in Shaheed Bhagat Singh district and Akashdeep Singh, alias Pintu, of Phool Kalan in Ropar.
The arrested persons revealed that Ravi Kumar of Rail Majra and Tony were their friends. They hired them to snatch gold bangles from the victim, who was their acquaintance. Ravi Kumar lured us with Rs 1 lakh to do the work. The trio later committed the crime.
On the basis of their statement, Ravi Kumar and Tony of Rail Majra and Shilpa Jain (sister-in-law of the victim) of Jain Mahalla in Ropar were booked. Ravi and Shilpa were later arrested, the SSP said. Raids were being conducted to arrest Tony, he added.
