Ropar, April 20

A team of Ropar police on Wednesday reached the home of former AAP leader Kumar Vishwas in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.

Kumar, who had been vocal against AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, was served a notice.

The police had gone to serve the notice on Vishwas regarding a case registered against him at Ropar on April 12.

According to a press release, the police claimed that “a man had complained that while he, along with AAP supporters, was visiting villages in the state for hearing people’ grievances, a few masked men intercepted them calling them ‘Khalistani’. Similar incidents have been taking place regularly. All this started after Kumar issued inflammatory statements against Arvind Kejriwal on news channels and social media platforms alleging the AAP’s links with separatist elements”.

Following this, a case under the IPC and Representation of Peoples Act was registered.

Vishwas had posted a video in the run-up to the Punjab assembly elections alleging that Kejriwal, during assembly elections of 2017, used to meet people who had sympathy with the terrorists.

The police said that as a result of these statements and videos, the peaceful atmosphere of Punjab is likely to be disturbed and as a part of the investigation, a notice has been served upon Kumar to produce evidence to support his allegations.

Later, the Ropar police also served notice on Congress leader Alka Lamba.

In a tweet, Lamba wrote: "The Punjab Police has pasted the notice on the wall of the house and on the way #AAP@BhagwantMann has also threatened the government that if she does not appear in the police station on April 26, the consequences will be bad."
