Ropar, June 28
Terming Brinder Singh Dhillon an “outsider”, a large number of local Congress leaders have revolted against the state Youth Congress president, who unsuccessfully contested the election from the Ropar Assembly seat in 2017.
The rebels, led by PPCC general secretary and Ropar Improvement Trust chairman Sukhwinder Singh Whisky, met here today and said the Congress lost the last Assembly election as the party ticket was allocated to an outsider.
When Dhillon was nominated as the party candidate for the Ropar seat in 2017, a majority of Congress leaders from the district had tendered their resignations, saying the party high command had “favoured an outsider”.
Brushing aside rebels’ claims of him being an outsider, Dhillon said Anandpur Sahib was his birthplace, where he started his schooling. The family had to leave the town after his father’s transfer. — TNS
