RS nomination row: Ropar court sends accused Navneet Chaturvedi to judicial custody

Navneet Chaturvedi, accused of forging the signatures of 10 AAP MLAs for filing his Rajya Sabha nomination from Punjab last week, was on Thursday remanded to judicial custody by the Ropar CJM. He has admitted to obtaining signatures of 10 AAP MLAs from the Election Commission website and using those for filing his nomination papers, according to the police.

During the police custody from October 16 to 23, he reportedly told police officials that Vijay Sharma of Delhi had assured him support of over 60 AAP MLAs to ensure his victory. Later, when Vijay Sharma did not provide him with the letter of support from the MLAs, he took signatures of 10 AAP MLAs from the Election Commission website. He also gave consent for sending a copy of his nomination for a forensic examination.
