Dattatreya Hosabale, general secretary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), on Tuesday inaugurated the organisation’s new office, “Shri Guru Ji Bhawan”, on Dr Mela Ram Road here.

The three-storey structure, described by RSS and BJP leaders as the first of its kind and biggest in the region, is expected to emerge as a key hub for RSS activities.

A senior BJP leader said the building housed several rooms, meeting halls and would serve as a central point for organisational work in the area. The previous RSS office was comparatively less spacious.

On a two-day visit, Hosabale would interact with eminent youth achievers and performers from various sections of life at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda, on Wednesday.

“This is a great moment that a senior RSS functionary has visited the city,” said an RSS leader.

The RSS is widely regarded as the ideological parent organisation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), though the two operate as distinct entities.

Bathinda, which has a significant Hindu population, is currently represented in the Assembly by Jagroop Singh Gill of AAP, while Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal is the four-time MP from here.
