Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday condemned the sacking of the Jathedars of two Sikh Takhts, terming the decision an act of “vengeance” against the community’s highest temporal seats for holding former SAD chief Sukhbir Badal guilty of religious misconduct in a decree last year.

“The sacking of the Akal Takht and the Keshgarh Sahib Jathedars after the dismissal of the Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar a month ago is one of the saddest days in the contemporary Sikh history,” he said criticising the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) move.

“It is not hidden from anyone as to why the Jathedars have been sacked. They had pronounced Sukhbir Badal guilty of religious misconduct and divested his father Parkash Singh Badal of Fakhr-e-Qaum title,” he added. The Ludhiana Lok Sabha MP termed the decision a “vengeance against the highest temporal authority of the Sikhs”.

“As a humble Sikh, while I feel sad, I condemn their sacking and hijacking of the SGPC by Sukhbir Badal,” he added.
