SAD faction awaits panel report to pick Tarn Taran bypoll candidate

Ginai Harpreet Singh, the president of the breakaway Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) faction, on Tuesday said his group would decide a candidate for the Tarn Taran bypoll on the basis of a report to be submitted by a seven-member selection panel.

Addressing mediapersons here, he said they had constituted the panel on October 3 to selecte a suitable candidate. He said the committee would soon decide the candidate after taking into account views of party workers, local leaders and state delegates of the party.

Giani Harpreet said his faction would constitute district units by next week and open its party office here soon.

He added that the main objective of his party would be to bring Sikh youth to politics. Expressing concern over deteriorating financial condition of the state, Giani Harpreet said he had learnt that the Punjab’s AAP government had taken another loan of Rs 5,000 crore, taking the total debt burden on the state to Rs 3.81 lakh crore.

He added that earlier the government had taken an advance of Rs 13,326 crore between April and August.
