A Mohali court on Saturday extended the judicial remand of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in connection with a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Majithia was produced in court after the completion of his 14-day remand. He is currently lodged in New Nabha Jail, Patiala, and will be presented before the court again on August 2.

On July 6, the court had remanded Majithia to 14-day judicial custody following the completion of his four-day police remand.

The Vigilance Bureau arrested Majithia from his Amritsar house on June 25 and brought him to Mohali the next day. The court first sent him to seven-day VB remand on June 26 and further extended that by four days on July 2.

During remand, the Akali leader was taken to Gorakhpur (UP) and Delhi to gather evidence related to Saraya Industries.

Majithia, 49, moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the assets case on July 1, calling it “political witch-hunting and vendetta” as he is vocal against the policies of AAP government.
