Chandigarh, June 26
State Congress leaders on Friday lashed out at SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal for his “doublespeak” on the issue of a resolution on ordinances related to the farm sector passed at the all-party meeting.
The leaders accused him of keeping mum when the Union Cabinet approved ordinances on agricultural reforms. His wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal is a part of the Cabinet that gave nod to the ordinances. PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar alleged the SAD chief was caught between opposing the ordinances and protecting the Cabinet berth of his wife. “He does not know whether he is supporting the anti-farmer ordinances or opposing them,” said Jakhar. Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh asked Sukhbir, “Are you or are you not opposed to the resolution? Are you with the resolution, either totally or conditionally?” Pointing out that the SAD chief’s explicit support on two of the three points in the resolution was a matter of record, he said the same was duly communicated through the government statement. — TNS
