Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said they would develop the entire walled city on the lines of the Heritage Street to give a fillip to commerce and tourism activities, if the Akali-BSP alliance was voted to power in 2022.

“Promoting tourism in Amritsar will be our priority. We will not only focus on beautifying the walled city but also revive all infrastructure projects that had not been completed during the Congress rule,” he said.

The SAD chief also paid obeisance at the Golden Temple, Pracheen Shivalya temple and Gurdwara Atari Sahib (Sultanwind).

Addressing public gatherings in different areas of Amritsar South and North Assembly segments, he held interactions with representatives of medical and goldsmith associations. He was accompanied by senior leaders, including Anil Joshi, Gurpartap Tikka and Talbir Gill.

He said the erstwhile SAD-led government had made Amritsar a major tourist destination by developing the Heritage Walk, besides creating other tourist spots such as Sada Pind and the Partition Museum.

“I am pained to see the poor upkeep of these projects. The holy city has fallen victim to intra-party power games of the Congress, with no major development project being taken up in Amritsar in the last nearly five years,” he said.

Sukhbir said those who had objected to the power purchase agreements (PPAs) done by the previous SAD government should now tell people of Punjab the reason behind the failure in power supply.

“Punjabis across all sectors, including industry, are facing more than six hours of power cuts, which has virtually paralysed the state,” said the SAD chief.
