On a call given by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), the BKU (Ugrahan) today observed a “black day” in protest against the death of farmer Shubhkaran Singh from Bathinda district. BKU (Ugrahan) members burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar at Mahavir Chowk.

Besides a large number of activists, state president of the BKU (Ugrahan) Joginder Singh Ugrahan was present on the occasion. They raised slogans against the PM and the CM of Haryana.

Earlier, they gathered at New Grain Market hereand were addressed by Ugrahan. Later, they took out a march from New Grain Market to Mahavir Chowk.

Talking to reporters, Ugrahan said they were observing Friday as black day against the death of Shubhkaran Singh, at the Khanauri border. He also said their demands included immediate handing over of Rs 1 crore to the family of Shubhkaran, government job to the deceased’s sister and legal action against officers responsible for his death.

Darbara Singh Chhajla, district general secretary of the BKU (Ugrahan), said the Modi government should fulfil all demands of the farmers, including guaranteed MSP on all crops, waiving loans of farmers, punishment to culprits of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident and implementation of recommendations of the Swaminathan report.
