Sangrur, April 27
Sangrur authorities have released the direct payment of Rs 1,520 crore into farmers’ bank accounts, while the Barnala administration has given farmers Rs 494 crore as DBT.
Barnala Deputy Commissioner (DC) Tej Partap Singh Phoolka said the administration was leaving no stone unturned to ensure hassle-free and smooth wheat procurement. Barnala District Food Supply Controller Atinder Kaur said 3,82,430 metric tonnes of wheat had arrived in various grain markets of the district till April 26, of which 3,59,225 MTs had been procured by various agencies.
“Of the wheat procured, 1,11,533 MT was procured by Pungrain, 85,758 MT by Markfed, 86,122 MT by PUNSUP, 53,843 MT by PSWC and 21,969 MT by the FCI,” she said.
District Mandi Officer Jaspal Singh said in order to ensure smooth procurement and payment of the wheat farmer help desks had also been set up in the offices of the market committees. In Sangrur also, authorities said that they were taking all required steps to procure the wheat quickly.
