Sangrur, April 11
After Covid cases started increasing in Sangrur, there is panic among residents. The Health Department authorities have started preparations, but in the absence of vaccine, the arrangements seem to be insufficient.
“It’s the third time that I am going back without the second dose as the authorities say they have no vaccine. Covid cases are increasing and the government should make arrangements of the vaccine,” said Palwinder Singh, a local resident.
Gursharan Singh, who got admission in a Canada college, said vaccination was mandatory for study abroad. Since the authorities do not have vaccine, he is unable to get the mandatory dose.
“The department authorities say they have sent a request for the vaccine, but none knows that when the vaccine will come,” he said.
Sources said on Tuesday, four more residents tested positive and the number of active cases in the district has increased to 13. Till date, the authorities have conducted tests of 7,75,986 residents of which 14,740 had tested positive.
Till date, 869 residents had lost lives. The highest deaths have taken place in Sangrur block (147), followed by Longowal (138), Kauhrian (124) and Moonak (120).
The authorities have made all preparations and deputed staff and put in place equipment in a Covid ward of the Sangrur Civil Hospital. Three patients are under treatment.
Sangrur Civil Surgeon Dr Parminder Kaur confirmed that the hospital had been without vaccine since February.
“We have sent a request for vaccine to the authorities,” she said.
