Sanjeev Arora resigns from Rajya Sabha

Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjeev Arora on Tuesday resigned from the Rajya Sabha following his election to the Punjab Assembly from the Ludhiana (West) Assembly constituency. Arora met Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice-president Jagdeep Dhankhar in New Delhi to hand over his resignation.

He cited constitutional provisions that prohibit simultaneous membership in both Parliament and state legislature after 14 days of gazette notification regarding the election results. The notification was issued on June 24.

Arora, who served in the Rajya Sabha for nearly three years, expressed gratitude to the people of Punjab, fellow MPs and the Rajya Sabha Chairman for their support and cooperation throughout his tenure.

“It has been an honour and privilege to serve as a Member of the Rajya Sabha and contribute to the legislative process at the national level,” Arora stated in his resignation letter.

Arora had won the Ludhiana Assembly bypoll by a margin of 10,637 votes, deferating Congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu.
