Second batch of stranded Afghan trucks enters India via Attari check-post

A second batch of 14 trucks carrying dry fruits and herbs from Afghanistan crossed over to India through the Attari-Wagah integrated check-post on Saturday.According to officials, 162 trucks carrying perishable items from Afghanistan had been stranded on the Pakistan side of the check-post since April 23, the day India shut the facility following the Pahalgam terror attack.

On Friday, five trucks carrying dry fruits had entered India, days after India and Pakistan declared a ceasefire following three days of hostilities on the border with both sides launching missile and drone strikes into each other’s territory.

Official sources at the check-post said 15 to 20 trucks would be given clearance to cross over to India daily.

These trucks are heading to Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat and parts of Punjab.

This is the only trading land route between India and Afghanistan at present.

The integrated check-post is permitted to receive imports only from Afghanistan as the trade with Pakistan is stalled as of now. It had seen an import of Rs 3,700 crore in 2023-24.
