Second liquor haul in four days, 1,630 boxes seized

As many as 1,630 boxes of Punjab-made whiskey were seized by a police team on the Bikaner highway on Friday. The consignment reportedly carried labels reading, “For sale in Arunachal Pradesh only”.

Driver, cleaner arrested

  • Driver Luxman Chaudhary of Birad Nagar in Barmer district and cleaner Om Parkash Soni of Nohar (Hanumangarh) were arrested on Friday. They reportedly claimed that the truck loaded with boxes was handed over to them at Dabwali. They were to be informed about its final destination after reaching Barmer.

In a similar incident on Tuesday, 1,735 boxes of liquor that were allegedly uploaded from Bathinda and meant to be delivered in Gujarat, were seized.

In today’s incident, driver Luxman Chaudhary of Birad Nagar in Barmer district and cleaner Om Parkash Soni of Nohar (Hanumangarh) were arrested. They reportedly claimed that the truck loaded with boxes was handed over to them at Dabwali. They were to be informed about its final destination after reaching Barmer.

In another case in Hanumangarh, Davinder, alias Navrang Jat, was nabbed with 128 boxes of illegally stacked Haryana-made liquor. Another 50 boxes of Haryana-made liquor were seized from a Maruti Swift Dzire car near Jandwali village. Sandeep Jat of Ellenabad (Sirsa) was held.

Sources said liquor smuggling was on the rise in Rajasthan due to panchayat elections scheduled for January 15.
