Security beefed up at Punjab-J&K border in Pathankot amid Pahalgam terror attack
In the wake of the brutal terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, security has been significantly ramped up along the Punjab-J&K border, particularly at the Madhopur checkpoint. The Punjab Police, in coordination with central police agencies including the Intelligence Bureau (IB), has deployed personnel in full strength.
Vehicles travelling along the Pathankot-Jammu National Highway are being subjected to rigorous inspections, with multiple security checkpoints established by the Pathankot police. As news of the ambush broke, senior officers rushed to Madhopur to coordinate a robust security response and prevent any potential incidents.
The deployment includes specialised units from the Army, the Border Security Force (BSF), and anti-sabotage teams of the Punjab Police. Notably, Special Operations Group (SOG) squads have been strategically positioned, given their advanced capabilities in handling high-risk and counter-terrorism operations.
SSP Daljinder Singh Dhillon emphasised the necessity of such a large-scale deployment. “This level of preparedness is imperative in the current scenario,” he stated.
The entire operation is being monitored from the Pathankot police’s command-and-control center located in Division No. 1, ensuring real-time surveillance and coordinated response. Joint Quick Response Teams (QRTs) comprising personnel from the Army and Punjab Police have also been stationed at the border for immediate action in case of any threat.
Additionally, dog squads have been deployed and more explosive-sniffing dogs will be requisitioned, added the SSP.
