Former AAP MLA HS Phoolka has accused Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh of not taking steps to ensure early SGPC elections.
Maintaining that the current term of the SGPC ended in 2016, he said before his resignation as MLA, he had moved a resolution in the Vidhan Sabha asking the Union Government to appoint chief commissioner of gurdwara elections at the earliest. In a letter to the Chief Minister, Phoolka said Capt Amarinder had said in the House that he would personally meet the Union Home Minister on the issue.
“But nine months have passed, you have not made any efforts in this direction. The proper management of the SGPC is important not just for the Sikhs, but also for Punjab. The silence of the Punjab Government on the issue is unfortunate,” he said.
