Self-defence training starts for Barnala women

On International Women’s Day, Barnala administration has started providing self-defence training to women. The authorities celebrated the day at the local Baba Kala Mehar Stadium and organised an athletic event under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign.

Tej Pratap Singh Phoolka, Deputy Commissioner, Barnala, inaugurated the self-defence training camp for 50 women. The camp would continue for over next one month. Sessions will be conducted five days a week, wherein the first batch comprises LBS college students. A demo was organised by judo coach Krishan Chauhan.

“We are hopeful that the training will help women defend themselves in any situation,” said Phoolka.

Girls from 10 villages also participated in the event.

Women workers awarded for their services included Zila Parishad chairman Sarabjit Kaur, Lakhvir Kaur, Harmandeep Kaur and Meena Rani from the police department, ASHA workers Kulwinder Kaur, Ambika Rani, ANM Javsir Kaur, Paramjit Kaur, Iqbal Kaur, Bhupinder Kaur, Davinder Kaur, women sarpanch Manjit Kaur, Charanpal Kaur, Kulwinder Kaur, Karamjit, Gurjit, anganwadi workers Ruhi Bansal, Sarabjit Kaur and Gurmeet, and special girls.

SDM Varjeet Walia, sports coach Gurvinder Kaur and other senior officers also attended the event.
