Senior IPS officer Harpreet Singh Sidhu repatriated to Punjab, fuelling speculations over DGP post
As per an order issued in this regard, Sidhu had requested to move back
Fuelling speculations over the post of Director General of Police (head of the state force), DGP Harpreet Singh Sidhu (1992-batch IPS officer) has been repatriated to Punjab.
He had requested to move back. An order issued stated, “Premature repatriation of Harpreet Singh Sidhu, IPS (PB:1992), posted as Additional Director General (ADG) ITBP to his parent cadre.”
An Under-Secretary with the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued these orders:
"The undersigned is directed to refer to Indo-Tibetan Border Police on the subject mentioned above and to convey the approval of competent authority for premature repatriation of Shri Harpreet Singh Sidhu, IPS(PB:1992), Additional Director General, Indo-Tibetan Border Police(ITBP) to his parent cadre with immediate effect, at his own request, under provisions of para-14.1 of IPS Tenure Policy.”
The incumbent head of the state force, DGP Gaurav Yadav, and Harpreet Singh Sidhu belong to the same batch of the IPS cadre. In the gradation list, Sidhu is senior to Gaurav Yadav. Sidhu will retire early on May 31, 2027, while Yadav will superannuate on April 30, 2029.
