Sepoy guns down two colleagues in Punjab's Pathankot

Pathankot, June 27

A verbal altercation turned ugly when two Army men were shot dead by a colleague at the 15th Guard Army Complex at Mirthal around 2.30 am today.

A senior police officer confirmed that Sepoy Lokesh Kumar (22) of Jharkhand shot dead Gauri Shankar of West Bengal and Suryakant of Maharashtra with an INSAS rifle. The rifle is the standard infantry weapon of the armed forces.

Police sources said all three were on patrolling duty when the incident took place.

The police have arrested Lokesh. He was taken to the Civil Hospital for a medical examination by a police team and would be produced in a court tomorrow.

Lokesh was trying to flee the city when the police nabbed him around 4.30 am.

An FIR under Section 302 of the IPC (murder) and various Sections of the Arms Act has been registered.
