Faridkot, April 16
As many as seven mobile phones and accessories were seized from undertrials and inmates at the Faridkot Modern Jail on Saturday.
The recoveries were made during a sudden inspection of the jail. The police have nominated seven inmates under the provisions of the Punjab Prisons Act after it received complaints from the jail authorities. Over the past two years, when permission for visitors to meet inmates is restricted owing to the Covid pandemic, over 300 mobile phones have been recovered inside the jail.
We may interrogate the accused to know how they got the mobile phones inside the jail, said Gurdit Singh, the investigating officer. —
