The police unearthed a sex racket involving policemen in which money was being extorted with the help of women from local residents belonging to well-off families on the pretext of slapping a false case of rape and immoral trafficking on them.
After a preliminary inquiry conducted by the Superintendent of Police Rattan Singh Brar, the police registered a criminal case under Sections 384, 385 and 120B of the IPC and Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1986, at Nihalsinghwala police station against two Assistant Sub-Inspectors Chamkaur Singh and Darshan Singh, along with Harjinder Singh, his wife Jaswant Kaur and another woman Seema Rani.
Investigating officer Palwinder Singh said all the accused had been arrested. They were produced before a local court, which sent them to police custody for four days. The accused women used to honey trap influential people and then call the police in a bid to blackmail and extort money.
