SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami appeared before the Akal Takht here on Wednesday and underwent 'religious punishment'  for “using derogatory words” against former SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur.

Dhami held a meeting with Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh before appearing before the high priests, who asked him to  wash dishes at the 'langar hall' and clean the shoes of the devotees at the ‘jodha ghar’ for an hour each.

After compliance, Dhami recited the prayers and performed ‘ardas’.

An audio conversation had landed Dhami in trouble in which he is purportedly heard using derogatory words against Kaur.

Following this, Dhami had volunteered to approach the Akal Takht to tender an apology and had also apologised to Kaur.
