The SGPC will convene an emergency meeting of its executive body on December 9 to discuss urgent matters, though the specific agenda has not been revealed.

Sources indicate that the primary focus is likely to be the recent assassination attempt on SAD leader Sukhbir Badal, which occurred on December 4. The discussion may centre on enhancing security measures at the Golden Temple complex in the wake of this incident. While undergoing religious penance at the Golden Temple, Sukhbir was targeted by a pro-Khalistan activist, Narain Singh Chaura.

The SGPC members emphasised that firing a weapon at a sacred site, constituted an act of sacrilege and should not be tolerated.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
