The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) has scheduled its executive body meeting at its headquarters in Amritsar on Monday.
Besides the Sikh Panthic and administrative issues, sources said the executive was likely to take a decision on holding its annual General House meeting to elect its president. A source said as a series of religious events are scheduled to be held to mark the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadar in November, the General House may be convened early to elect its president.
As per the Gurdwara Act, 1925, the SGPC has to be revamped every year by electing its president, senior vice-president, junior vice-president, general secretary and 15-member executive body, unanimously or through voting in the general house, if necessary. Despite the Chief Gurdwara Election Commission declaring to hold the SGPC polls, which has a term for five-year, the elections did not take place. The members elected over a decade ago will elect their president.
