The SGPC has condemned attempts to encroach upon a historic shrine dedicated to Shaheed Bhai Taru Singh in Pakistan and convert it into a mosque. The shrine was reportedly being claimed to be the place of Masjid Shahid Ganj by the locals.

Gurdwara Shaheedi Asthan Bhai Taru Singh is a historical shrine built at Naulakha Bazaar in Lahore, where the martyr laid down his life for the sake of protecting Sikh values in 1745.

Lodging a strong protest against its conversion, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal asked the Union Ministry to take up the matter with its counterpart across the border.

“This is our call for justice for the minority Sikh community in Pakistan. The authorities should take immediate remedial measures to safeguard rights and cultural heritage of Sikhs,” he said. — TNS
