The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) urged Akal Takht to initiate ‘Panthic’ action against pro-Khalistan activist Narain Singh Chaura, who attempted an assassination bid on former deputy CM and SAD leader Sukhbir Singh Badal outside the Golden Temple premises on December 4.
Dhami said a representation had been handed over to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, seeking expulsion of Chaura from the Panth.
The submission was finalised during an emergency meeting of the 13-member executive body headed by SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami at its headquarters today.
“The incident (assassination bid on Sukhbir) needs to be scrutinised thoroughly,” he said.
The SGPC chief also condemned the state government for not conducting a thorough inquiry into the incident which he termed as a ‘deep rooted conspiracy’ while doubting the role of the Police Department.
After passing the condemnation resolution, the SGPC executive also formed a committee to scrutinise all aspects of the incident and submit a report within three weeks.
