SGPC staffer files revision petition against dera head

An employee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has filed a criminal revision petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking action against Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of people.

Lakhvir Singh, assistant secretary at the SGPC’s Chandigarh sub-office, said, “It was prayed that the delay in filing the criminal revision petition be kindly condoned in the interest of justice and it be heard alongside two earlier petitions filed in the same case.”

Accepting the revision application, the HC has scheduled the next date of hearing as November 7. The case dates back to 2007 when the dera head allegedly provoked religious sentiments by impersonating as Guru Gobind Singh, sparking widespread outrage.
