An SGPC employee was stabbed to death allegedly by his colleague at the Sikh body’s headquarters at Teja Singh Samundri Hall near Golden Temple this afternoon.
Raids on to nab the suspect, say police
The deceased has been identified as Darbara Singh. He was working with the account’s branch of the SGPC. The accused, identified as Sukhbir Singh, was posted in the general branch. He allegedly stabbed Darbara Singh in the chest with his kirpan, leaving him critically injured. The victim was rushed to Sri Guru Ram Dass Charitable Hospital where doctors declared him’ dead on arrival’.
As per a preliminary probe, a family dispute is stated to be the reason behind the murder. Partap Singh, secretary, SGPC, termed the incident as unfortunate and said both employees were having some family dispute that led to the incident. “Both were having lunch when they entered into heated arguments. The dispute turned ugly and led to the murder of Darbara Singh. Sukhbir has been suspended and an internal probe ordered. The police were informed about the incident immediately,” he said.
Harsandeep Singh, SHO, Kotwali police station, said an investigation was on. He said Sukhbir fled the spot after stabbing his colleague. “We are in the process of recording the statements of the eyewitnesses and an FIR will be lodged soon. Raids are on to nab the suspect,” he said.
Meanwhile, another staffer who witnessed the incident fainted on seeing blood at the site. He was taken to Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences at Vallah.
