SGPC voter enrolment deadline extended
The date for voters’ enrolment for the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections has been extended up to October 31. The earlier deadline was September 16.
The Office of Chief Gurdwara Election Commission has sent a communication to the deputy commissioners of various districts of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh, in this regard. Haryana is out of the picture this time as it has already constituted a separate ad hoc Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC).
Till September 13, around 50 lakh Sikh aspirants have got themselves registered. During the last SGPC elections (2011), 52.69 lakh “eligible” voters were registered in Punjab.
The Commissioner, Gurdwara Election, Punjab, has claimed that the electoral process that started off with a lukewarm response is gaining momentum now.
