‘Shameful’: Body transported on handcart in Faridkot after fatal accident
The incident occurred when an e-rickshaw collided with a motorcycle, following which a truck reportedly ran over the motorcyclist, killing him on the spot
A tragic road accident on the Ferozepur road in Faridkot has triggered widespread outrage after a video surfaced showing the body of the deceased being transported on a handcart (rehri) instead of an ambulance, despite police personnel being present at the scene. The incident occurred when an e-rickshaw collided with a motorcycle, following which a truck reportedly ran over the motorcyclist, killing him on the spot. The police soon reached the location and began preliminary proceedings. However, the lack of a proper vehicle to move the body has drawn severe criticism from locals and social media users alike.
Advocate Karandeep Bhullar strongly condemned the administration’s handling of the situation, calling it “deeply shameful and inhuman”. He alleged that despite the government’s repeated claims about improving emergency and health services, the reality on the ground tells a different story.
“It is disgraceful that the authorities could not arrange an ambulance for the deceased. The viral video has completely exposed the government's hollow claims about public health infrastructure,” advocate Bhullar said. He further held the Faridkot police, Health Department, and the local MLA collectively responsible for the absence of basic emergency response facilities, saying that such negligence forces citizens to rely on handcarts to transport bodies in full public view.
The incident has sparked a wider debate on the state of emergency response mechanisms and the availability of ambulances in smaller towns, with citizens demanding accountability and immediate corrective measures from the authorities.
