A controversial Shiv Sena (Taksali) leader lodged at District Jail tested positive for Covid-19 here today. The leader was brought to the jail after he was arrested on July 12, allegedly for denigrating women and inciting enmity between different groups through a video uploaded on the social media.
Sources said a team of medical officers had been taking swab samples of jail inmates since last week. Another undertrial, belonging to nearby Musapur village, was also found suffering from Covid-19 yesterday. He had given samples before his arrest a few days ago.
According to Civil Surgeon HN Sharma there were 50 active cases in Ropar district while reports of 719 persons were awaited.
